Today we spent the afternoon at our local mountain man rendezvous. Today was the first day open to the public and luckily the sun came out and the rain stopped long enough for us to spend a couple of hours.
We like going and picking up some primitive craft items and nature study supplies. Plus we always learn a ton from all of the members. This was where we first saw and used an atlatl many years ago. It’s a great place to learn a bit of history as the members are a treasure trove of information about the time period. The first rendezvous we attended we listened as a member gave us a history of weaponry.
Jack has been waiting since the last rendezvous to buy a fox tail.
My purchases included some arrows, a wrist guard and some skulls to add to our nature collection. I ended up bringing home a fox skull, a raccoon skull and a skunk skull.
Jack brought home a white fox tail, a rabbit skin bag and a beaded necklace. Alex bought a raccoon skull, a mink skull, a flute, a wrist guard and more.
Being there really made us miss our time at Wintercount last year. It was such a great experience. Attending period events like this are a great way to enhance your homeschooling experience.
